The phrase in English literally means pure life (other interpretations include 'full life' or 'this is living') It became a popular phrase in 1956 after the Mexican movie "Pura vida!" was released. Many Costa Ricans use this to describe their culture which emphasizes a strong community base, perservance, good spirits, enjoying life slowly, and celebrating good fortune whether large or small.
I should be from Costa Rica because this phrase basically sums up my life philosophy. I'm 21, trying to live a pure life to the fullest. I encourage everyone live life in this way; whatever your own definition of pure life is.. whether that be traveling the world, volunteering and helping those less fortunate, participating in a religious ceremony, fixing a broken relationship or simply making the most of your time with family and friends. I truly believe this is the best way of life for me.
Well now you know what pura vida means. In this blog I will talk about my life and how I'm striving to live this kind of life. :)
